Emily’s Story #findyourinnerwarrior

Say hi to Emily. She is a 25 year old creative writer, lingerie model and fierce, independent woman. I’ve known her personally through university and have seen the amazing journey she has come on so I wanted to share her story with you all. When Emily was 14/15 years old she started to put on weight and decided to cut her hair short around the same time too. This instigated boys in her year to bully and mock her by constantly calling her names which put her down. Unfortunately she then carried this feeling of being ugly and disgusting through to her university life and was dependant on other people to tell her otherwise. It was only later that she realised that the only validation she needed was from herself because her body was and is beautiful.

A big turning point in Emily’s life was the first photoshoot she did with the lingerie brand Curvy Kate. She was extremely nervous before the shoot to the point where she almost didn’t go but what she found when she got there were women of all shapes and sizes that looked so happy and were just having a great time. The people that worked there made her feel completely at ease. Even though she was worried about what people would think because she was so exposed the reaction she got was so positive. There were men in the past that told her that if she lost weight she would be more beautiful but during the photoshoot she came to realise that this was simply not true. The room she was modelling was on the main road of Baker Street and people could even see into the studio so at first Emily felt completely unnatural and felt like she still had to cover up but when she realised how amazing she looked in the bras and lingerie (don’t underestimate the power of correctly fitted bra) she really got into it and completely forgot her fears. She said she came into the shoot one person and left feeling like another.

Obviously feeling positive about your body isn’t just a switch you can flip and she stressed the importance of consciously getting in a better frame of mind and to keep working on yourself to be happy with your body. You’re always going to have off days where you don’t feel as good but that’s ok. It’s important not to be too hard on yourself because it’s completely natural. She said another resource that has helped her is following the right pages on Instagram as she sees how open some influencers are about loving every part of their bodies. Some pages she would recommend are @fullerbustinspo, @curvykate, @lovebravissimo, @_nelly_london and @honeykinny. Emily also promotes a lot about body positivity on her own Instagram page @emilymumbles which I know has inspired many women including myself and made me aware of issues such as how wearing the right bra size can not only effect your confidence but your posture too (it may seem like a small thing but it makes a huge difference trust me). For more information please feel free to visit her Instagram and her blog pieces or if you do need someone to talk to after reading this please feel free to message @askariclothing too.
